An independent oil-loss log for the building's six hydraulic elevators — kept separately from the maintenance company's own paperwork, because "the machine room needs AC" doesn't explain why every jack is leaking.

VENDOR'S EXPLANATION

"The controllers are overheating because the machine room has no air conditioning." Plausible on its own — drives do fault on heat.

WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING

All six units are losing hydraulic oil at the packing gland or fittings. That's seal wear, not ambient temperature. AC doesn't fix a leaking jack.

Check protocol — same way, every time

  1. Send the car to the lowest landing and let it sit a few minutes so the piston fully retracts.
  2. Read the sight glass or dipstick on the power unit. Record it in quarts.
  3. Note the ambient temperature in the machine room.
  4. Photograph the reading with the date visible; reference the file name in Notes.
  5. Any time the vendor tops off oil during a service visit, log the exact quantity the same day.
